Objective
Create a fresh design approach and style that could be adopted for the client’s Corporate Strategy 2007.
Activity
Public feedback had highlighted a lack of local imagery and design simplicity in previous Council communication, which led to a confusion of message as opposed to clarity. Our design team’s initial concepts reflected these comments - creative that was clean & crisp, colour coding the Borough’s five Corporate objectives and using appropriate photography that left the reader in no doubt the document was ‘about Poole’. This prompted the client to ask us to organise a photo shoot using local people in local places, its effect evident throughout the finished document.
Results
As expected the job was produced within budget and also delivered two days before deadline. Unfortunately there was a problem… the client needed to change the position of their logo on the front/back cover to keep within brand guidelines – something they and we were unaware of throughout the design process. The publication was therefore unable to be put before the Chief Executive, councillors and ultimately made available to the public. We arranged immediate pick up of all 2000 copies whilst simultaneously reprinting the amended covers ensuring the logo was now correctly represented. All returned copies were then unstitched, new covers attached, re-stitched and delivered back to the client within five working days.
“Thanks for taking this so seriously” – Ruth Lawson, Corporate Communications Manager, Borough of Poole
